The Bone Marrow Transplantation Section includes 3 laboratories. The areas of research include basic and molecular analyses of tolerance and lymphocyte signaling, cellular immunology, small animal models and studies of human recipients of hematopoietic cell transplantation and organ transplantation. The major clinical goals include optimization of graft-versus-tumor effects while avoiding graft-versus-host disease in the treatment of malignancies, using hematopoietic cell transplantation to induce organ allograft tolerance, understanding humoral rejection and induction of xenograft tolerance.
